Welcome to 2016! Apologies for my absence. Over the last month I’ve been off dealing
with Christmas, New Year, a hectic work schedule and wedding planning (*stress*).
The good thing is that I’ve also been trying lots of new products and have been
making some wonderful discoveries with my testing schedule!
It’s currently summer
in Australia and, frankly, it’s bloody hot. As I’ve mentioned before, I
work in an arid desert environment and in this part of the year the
temperatures have been climbing into the 40oCs (+104oF)
on a daily basis. Over the past 3 weeks I’ve been testing the new Benton Honest
TT Mist in an effort to keep my skin cool and hydrated through the heat and the
drying air conditioning.
Appearance/Packaging
The tube is kind of
weird. It’s…not really a bottle and it’s not really a tube, but some sort of
hybrid between the two. The main end with the nozzle on it looks like a regular
bottle and as you move towards the bottom of the product it looks more like a
tube. It’s somewhat reminiscent of most toothpaste tubes and I’m not sure I
agree with, or understand, the design choice.

Was it to stand out
from the crowd of bottles? Easier storage? To make it seem like a full bottle when really there’s much less at the
bottom? Who knows!
Benton have favoured
the simple, yet effective, black and white colouring without any sort of complex design. It’s nothing flashy or overly pretty, but it does the job and will sit
comfortably in your bag without attracting any strange looks.

Er...what I assume is the ingredients listed on the back of the tube.
The thing I like most about the ingredients of Benton Honest TT Mist is how simple they are. Rather than packing in 30+ different chemicals and parts this product has only what it NEEDS to have. What this means for the consumer is that there is a lower chance of a negative reaction (provided you’re not sensitive to any of the main ingredients!).

Rather than using
plain water, the majority of the volume is Melaleuca Alternifolia (a species of
tea tree) water, making up 85% of the product. According to a quick google, “tea
tree water” is typically just water with a percentage of tea tree oil added to
it, but I appreciate that Benton have really tried to cram as much tea tree in
as possible!
The other notable
addition is sodium hyaluronate. This is the salt form of hyaluronic acid – an
ingredient that is well known for its hydrating properties – and it’s a great
addition to a mist!

Application
It takes approximately 2-3 squirts to get full face coverage (and I don’t have a massive face to begin
with) when applied from a ~20cm distance. It can sometimes feel like a lot of the product is
being wasted into the air rather than on my face where it should be. Some of
the time I ended up squirting it into my hand and tapping to apply. When
following this method it only took 1-2 pumps to cover my face, but the
refreshing, spritz effect was somewhat lost.
The texture itself is the same as water. Exactly the same.
Performance
It’s refreshing. Oh lawd
is it refreshing! I’ve been ducking under my desk in the hottest parts of the
day just so I can spritz a bit of this on without my coworkers giving me
strange looks. On extra hot days I’ve been keeping it in the fridge which makes
it wonderfully cool!
I applied every 4 or
so hours when sitting in the air conditioning.
By itself, the Benton
Mist doesn’t do much. For one day I ditched my normal creams and moisturisers
to exclusively test this product. My skin was not as dry as when I use nothing at
all, but by the end of the day it was definitely looking a little thirsty. Then
again, the intention of the mist is to work in combination with other products
and enhance their effects.
Does it achieve this?
It’s a little hard to say.
It certainly HAS
helped to hold all my other products in place and keeping my skin moisturised
throughout the day. Without it, I find my moisturisers have mostly dried off
and thinned in a day of sitting in air conditioning or wandering about
in the Australian summer heat. This added moisture might be why my skin has
remained spot-free over the last few weeks (aside from one odd little pimple
that’s decided my eyebrow is an awesome place to make a little home…sigh).
When it comes to
treating pimples or acne, the Benton Mist certainly doesn’t hurt, but I can’t
say for sure that it’s helped improve any blemishes either. I’ve been going
through a period of relatively clear skin lately, although I don’t feel like I
can attribute this to the Benton Mist entirely.
Scent
It literally smells
like nothing. I guess that’s good if you’re sensitive to stronger-smelling
products? Personally I would’ve liked the addition of a slight scent, just so you know it’s actually there!
Summary
I haven’t noticed any major improvements to my skin since using this, but it has helped keep my skin feeling plumper for longer throughout the day. It fills the hydration gap that I've typically been getting around mid afternoon. I'm only just over the fence with this one, though - I don't love it, but I don't really have any problems with it either. As with all products, you may have a different experience.
I will be considering repurchasing for next summer. For the hydration and refreshing feel, the <$10USD price is excellent value!

Pros
- Applies easily and dries down quickly
- Doesn't cause makeup to shift when applying. It's light enough that there's no running or reapplication of makeup needed
- Refreshingly cool and relieving
- Inoffensive scent
- Fairly priced compared to other products on the market
Cons
- The half-bottle, half-tube packaging is a little strange
- Spray coverage not amazing
- This is a totally personal preference, but I would like SOME scent to it. Nothing strong or flowery, just enough to let me know I'm not spraying straight water on my face.

Dry, sunny weather? Give Benton Honest TT Mist a try!
If you are in the market for a mist you could do a lot worse than Benton Honest TT Mist. It’s calming, it’s gentle and it’s suitable for sensitive skin, providing a good 4-5 hours of hydration in arid environments. If you haven’t tried a mist product before, this is a great place to start!
